The Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America: An Overview
By Joel Sherzer, Susan Smyth Kung
The Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America (AILLA) is a digital repository of audio, video, and textual materials concerning the indigenous languages of Latin America. In this essay we describe the archive, its mission, and its importance; we discuss the precursors that led to its establishment; we illuminate some of the collections in the archive; and we illustrate ways in which people have used the materials they find in AILLA.
